Daily remembrance does not need to be complicated to be meaningful. A brief phrase, understood and repeated sincerely, can return the heart to Allah during work, travel, waiting, or quiet moments at home. The aim is not merely to count words, but to remember whom we worship and from whom every blessing comes.
The Best Remembrance and Supplication
Sunan Ibn Majah 3800 records that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said the best remembrance is “La ilaha illallah” and the best supplication is “Alhamdulillah.” Sunnah.com lists the narration in the Book of Etiquette, in the chapter on the virtue of those who praise Allah, and grades it Hasan.
“La ilaha illallah” affirms that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah. “Alhamdulillah” directs all praise and gratitude to Allah. Together, these phrases renew belief and teach the heart to recognise its Lord and His blessings.
Learn the Meaning Before Building the Habit
Pronounce the phrases carefully and learn their meaning from reliable instruction. Understanding protects remembrance from becoming an empty sound. When saying “La ilaha illallah,” remember the exclusive right of Allah to worship. When saying “Alhamdulillah,” recognise a real blessing and praise Allah for it.
Do not turn differences in accent or a learner’s early mistakes into ridicule. Correct gently, listen to a reliable recitation, and improve patiently. Sincerity and careful learning should grow together.
Choose Natural Moments for Remembrance
Connect dhikr with stable parts of the day: after an obligatory prayer, during a safe walk, before beginning work, while waiting, or before sleep. A small routine that survives busy days is often more useful than an ambitious plan abandoned after a week.
Keep attention on safety and responsibility. Do not become distracted while driving, operating equipment, crossing a road, caring for a child, or completing work that requires concentration. Remembrance should strengthen responsible living, not interrupt a duty.
Let Praise Improve the Use of Blessings
“Alhamdulillah” is more than a verbal response to comfort. Gratitude also appears in how a blessing is used. Health should support obedience and service, time should be guarded, knowledge should be shared responsibly, and wealth should be earned and spent lawfully.
Praise Allah in ease without becoming proud, and continue praising Him during difficulty without pretending that pain is unreal. A believer can acknowledge hardship, seek appropriate help, and still recognise blessings that remain.
Protect Sincerity and Balance
Dhikr may be practised quietly without announcing totals or comparing routines. Avoid treating a personal target as though it were an obligation for everyone. Begin with authentic words, maintain the obligatory acts of worship, and let voluntary remembrance support rather than replace them.
Notice whether remembrance is improving conduct. The declaration of Allah’s oneness should move the heart away from showing off and dependence upon false objects of worship. Praise should reduce complaint, entitlement, and misuse of blessings.
Conclusion
Sunan Ibn Majah 3800 gives believers two concise phrases of lasting meaning: “La ilaha illallah” as the best remembrance and “Alhamdulillah” as the best supplication. Learn them accurately, understand what they affirm, attach them to realistic moments, and let their meaning shape worship and character throughout the day.
