Complete Daily Responsibilities Then Turn to Allah With Hope

Work, study, family care, and necessary errands can fill the day. Islam does not ask believers to neglect these responsibilities. It teaches them to complete duties with care while keeping the heart directed toward Allah. The closing verses of Surah Ash-Sharh offer a concise reminder about effort, devotion, and hope.

Strive After Completing a Duty

Allah says: “So once you have fulfilled ˹your duty˺, strive ˹in devotion˺, turning to your Lord ˹alone˺ with hope” (Quran 94:7–8).

These verses address the Prophet ﷺ and join the completion of one responsibility with renewed striving and hopeful direction toward Allah. They correct the idea that an open moment must immediately be filled with distraction. A transition can instead become an opportunity for worship, reflection, and sincere dependence upon the Lord.

Finish Responsibilities Honestly

Turning to worship should not become an excuse for leaving agreements, family duties, or lawful work unfinished. Complete the task within your ability, communicate honestly when more time is needed, and avoid careless shortcuts. Responsible conduct is part of sound Muslim character.

At the same time, do not allow ordinary work to occupy every quiet moment. When one duty ends, pause before automatically opening another screen or searching for more activity. Even a brief pause can help the heart move from busyness to remembrance.

Use Small Transitions for Devotion

After finishing a meeting, household task, journey, or study session, choose a simple act of devotion. Pray an obligatory salah if its time has arrived, make a short dua, read a few Quran verses, offer praise and gratitude, or sit quietly to examine your intention.

The practice does not need to be long to be meaningful. A few attentive minutes are better than an ambitious routine that cannot be maintained. The purpose is to keep worldly responsibilities from becoming a wall between the believer and Allah.

Turn to Allah With Hope

Hope in Allah is not wishful thinking without effort. The verses place striving beside hopeful direction. A believer works, worships, asks for help, and expects good from Allah without demanding a particular outcome. This keeps hope connected to obedience and humility.

When a task succeeds, turn to Allah with gratitude instead of pride. When it fails, turn to Him for guidance, patience, and a better next step instead of surrendering to despair. In both situations, the heart needs Allah more than it needs praise or control.

Create a Clear End-of-Task Habit

Choose one repeated point in the day: closing the workday, completing household chores, finishing study, or returning home. Attach a small worship habit to that moment. Put the phone aside, make wudu if appropriate, and give the next few minutes to prayer, Quran, dhikr, or dua.

Keep the habit calm rather than rigid. Emergencies, illness, caregiving, and changing schedules may require adjustment. The goal is not to create guilt over every interruption, but to train the heart to notice openings for devotion.

Conclusion

Quran 94:7–8 teaches striving after fulfilling a duty and turning toward Allah with hope. Muslims can apply this guidance by completing responsibilities honestly, guarding transitions from needless distraction, and using available moments for sincere worship. A finished task can then become more than an ending; it can become a doorway back to Allah.
