Planning Tomorrow Responsibly While Remembering Allah’s Will and Guidance

Planning Tomorrow Responsibly While Remembering Allah’s Will and Guidance

Planning is part of responsible daily life. Muslims arrange work, study, worship, travel, family duties, and service while knowing that the future remains under Allah’s will. Quran 18:23–24 teaches a balanced approach: make plans, avoid absolute claims about tomorrow, remember Allah, and remain open to better guidance.

Do Not Speak About Tomorrow With Absolute Certainty

Quran 18:23 warns against saying, “I will definitely do this tomorrow,” without connecting the plan to Allah’s will. The next verse teaches the believer to add, “if Allah so wills,” to remember the Lord after forgetting, and to hope for guidance toward what is more right.

This guidance does not discourage preparation. It corrects the illusion of complete control. We can choose, organize, and work, but we do not command every circumstance, result, delay, illness, opportunity, or change.

InshaAllah Should Express Dependence, Not Evasion

Saying inshaAllah—if Allah wills—should be truthful remembrance. It is not a polite way to avoid a decision or make a promise that we do not intend to keep. If you accept a task, combine the phrase with a realistic plan, honest effort, and clear communication.

For example, instead of making a vague commitment, identify what you can deliver, the time required, and any known limitation. If you are uncertain, say so plainly. Trust in Allah strengthens honesty; it does not replace it.

Remember Allah When You Forget

Quran 18:24 includes a gentle correction: when you forget, remember your Lord. A forgotten phrase need not become a reason for despair or obsessive doubt. Remember Allah when it comes back to mind, correct your speech, and continue with humility.

This lesson also supports useful reminders. A note beside a planner, a brief dua before scheduling, or a pause before promising can help the heart connect daily plans with worship.

Ask for a More Right Course

The verse does more than teach a phrase. It teaches willingness to be guided toward what is more right. A plan may be lawful yet poorly timed, beyond our ability, or less beneficial than another option. Consultation, fresh evidence, and changing circumstances may reveal a wiser path.

Before a major commitment, ask: Is this lawful? Does it neglect an obligation? Who may be affected? What reliable advice do I need? What will I do if the first route closes? These questions turn humility into practical preparation.

Build Plans With Responsible Flexibility

A sound plan can include priorities, deadlines, resources, and a reasonable margin for delay. Protect obligatory worship and people’s rights when organizing the day. Avoid filling every hour so tightly that one disruption causes broken promises or harsh behaviour.

If circumstances change, inform affected people early. Offer a revised time or another workable solution. Saying inshaAllah never removes the duty to apologize, repair harm, return money, or fulfil a valid obligation as soon as possible.

A Simple Planning Practice

At the start of each day, write the three most important lawful responsibilities. Say inshaAllah with awareness, then assign a realistic next action to each one. Leave space for prayer, family needs, and unexpected events. At day’s end, thank Allah for what became possible and review unfinished work without excuses or despair.

Conclusion

Quran 18:23–24 joins purposeful planning with humility before Allah. A believer prepares carefully, speaks honestly, remembers Allah after forgetting, and welcomes guidance toward a better course. This makes inshaAllah a living expression of trust, responsibility, and hope rather than an empty habit.
